I don’t eBay often, but when I do, it is SO dangerous.
Last night, I spent a highly entertaining hour on the phone with my little sister. The phone call was triggered by my desire to bid for something on eBay. Now, note that my little sister has much more in the way of l33t skillz and wisdom in the ways of eBay. Thus, I went to her for guidance. Happily, she saved me from being stupidly hooked on a single item that was listed multiple times elsewhere and cheaper than getting into a bid war for the original list item I had found. She also helped me decide to also bid on an item that I wanted, but wasn’t sureĀ I should get.
Hubby might disagree that this was “helping”, I might add.

steampunk by Kyle Cassidy
So what did I get? Well, a couple of friends of mine are into steampunk. Hel, KennyCelican and I recently went to PhilCon and heard a little more about steampunk. In fact, Hel and I enjoyed a couple of panels on steampunk fashion and art, which we found very entertaining despite the fact that we hadn’t read all that much in the way of the genre. One of the niftiest cosplay items was a boiler plate top hat, with a real stack that truly puffed steam once it had a chance to warm up.
I had also met Kyle Cassidy with KennyCelican. Kyle is the photographer behind whereIwrite.org and was very fun to talk to as well as generous in allowing us to check out his proofs for an upcoming photobook he’s putting together.
If we combine this fun experience in steampunk with my new love for the Damsel In This Dress and her corsets. We get a desire to put together a steampunk outfit. So my eBay purchases were a basic set of goggles and a very lovely pocket watch.
We’ll wait to hit the budget with the actual intended corset set next year.
